Biography

Tom Harrer, LMFT, is the Owner and CEO of Auburn Davis Center for DBT. With over 15 years of experience in mental health, Tom has worked in a variety of settings, starting in Short-Term Residential Therapeutic Programs (STRTPs) in 2007. His career has taken him through dual diagnosis treatment in South Sacramento and back to STRTPs before joining the clinic in 2022. For the past six years, he has specialized in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), focusing on integrating DBT skills into daily life in a meaningful and practical way.

Tom’s specialties include not only an expansive knowledge of DBT and its real-world application but also training others in DBT. He is passionate about teaching clinicians, educators, and professionals how to apply DBT skills, principles, and values in therapy, schools, and other settings. He also guides individuals and groups in developing and applying DBT skills to create lasting, effective change in their lives.

Tom’s approach to therapy balances deep understanding with the challenge of pushing individuals toward behavioral change—helping clients find more effective ways to get their needs met. His expertise in DBT allows him to guide both individuals and groups toward lasting transformation by blending support with accountability.

Born and raised in Rocklin, Tom remains deeply connected to the Placer County community, both personally and professionally. When he’s not working, he enjoys spending time with his family, traveling, and finding every opportunity to crack a good joke.
